A few things

Hello everyone.

I have been busy with student teaching, especially since I started teaching Humanities. I've been trying to learn all there is to learn about ancient Greece without dying of boredom. I'm pretty proud I made it this far. I told my class I am planning an "educational event" (NOT a "party") for the end of the Greek unit, including sheet-togas (over clothes, of course), ancient Greek food (or today's equivalent), Olympics and possibly dancing, during which they will all be called by Greek names. They think I'm nice, and letting them have a "party" but I think it's more selfish than that. I need something to reward myself at the end of this!

Anyways - the other day I did something teachery. *sigh*

I was working with 5 kids in the hallway (because the Percussion class is divided and the only place for me to teach them is on the floor in the hallway....). One of them was constantly playing when he wasn't supposed to be, playing random things when we were supposed to be playing together, ignoring me when I told him what to do, and just being a bump on a log. Well, an obnoxious bump on a log. And we all know that the kids take advantage of me because they think I can't "do" anything to them because I'm "just" the student-teacher. And since he has kind of been a constant problem, I decided I was not going to let them think that anymore. I had to speak to him probably more than 20 times in about an hour.

And before I knew it, the words were coming out of my mouth, like a bad burp, or word vomit, as it's called in Mean Girls. "I'm going to write you a referral!" There I said it. My cooperating teachers have only rarely written referrals, though I've heard them threaten. I think it's the only way to get their attention, but I'm afraid the office is going to think I'm a crappy teacher who can't control her class and runs to the administration whenever a student is being difficult. Which, I have to say, is NOT the case. But when they feel like they don't have to listen to me because we're sitting on the floor in the hallway, and I'm the student teacher, I get tired of it. Not to mention all the comments I've been getting about how I need to be "meaner". Is that "mean" enough for you!? Whatever.

Also - I was thinking. It's a good thing children are born as little tiny babies. They butter you up with their cute little fingers and toes, constant sleeping, soft skin and cute giggles and smiles. And then something happens and they turn into teenagers. Nobody would have kids if they were born as teenagers. But everyone thinks babies are cute and cuddly. Hate to break it to you, but those cute little babies grow up into snotty, mouthy, roll-their-eyes-at-you teenagers. (Okay, not all of them, but a lot, it seems...) Now I understand why people don't teach high school until after their kids are grown - it's like seeing 15 years into the future without being able to do anything to change it.

Well, that's all for now - I know I owe you stuff about skiing, but Chad hasn't gotten me the videos we took so I can post them here.

Can I go call my mom...?

Today I forgot my milk money.
I felt like a 1st grader.
AND I was thirsty.

Senior Pictures

As some of you know, we have the option of making posters to advertise for our senior recitals. As some of you know, I chose not to make one. Partly because I didn't have time. Partly because I didn't really care. But I wanted some professional pictures taken, and the lovely Kate Mower needed some pictures for her senior project for photography, so it worked out.

Here are the pictures she took. She did a great job editing out weird shadows and veins, and shining up my jewelry and teeth. You really should see the before and after - she makes me look good! Thanks Kate! You can see them bigger by clicking on them - Which ones do you like?
